Mia sent me a little email many months ago to enquire if I was available to photograph her wedding. It was one of the best emails I’ve ever received. Aitutaki, Cook Islands… I immediately Googled the location and my eyes lit up. I had apparently visited when I was just a few months old with my surf seeking parents but had never dreamt that nearly 30 years later I would return to photograph a gorgeous destination wedding on it’s very shores.
Flying half way around the world from the slightly less tropical United Kingdom, Mia and Tom planned a relaxed beach ceremony on the white sands of One Foot Island, a short boat ride across the idyllic waters from Aitutaki Lagoon Resort. Heavy showers were predicted for our entire stay but on the morning of the wedding a little sun peeked out and then the skies cleared to unveil the bluest water I have ever seen.
I’ve always been a big fan of eloping, not just for myself but I love witnessing the excitement couples share when they have ventured somewhere far away, somewhere exotic they can call their special place and visit for years to come. I was so absolutely honoured to travel to this island paradise and photograph Mia and Tom’s excitement and would love to hear from anyone dreaming up an adventure for their wedding too!
This was one of those days that words just can’t describe so I’ll let the photos try and speak for themselves…x
Part two – Water and the Wedding Dress coming later this week!
